AXS LAW Achieves a Rare and Decisive Win in Jury Trial.

Rossana Arteaga-Gomez, Jack Flagg, and Jenna Ferolie of AXS LAW achieved a rare and decisive win in federal court last week. The court granted a motion for judgment of acquittal, ending the trial before the case even reached the jury. The court found that the government’s evidence was so lacking, no reasonable juror could convict.

As a result, our client—an employee at a major international company—was released from custody after spending three months in the Federal Detention Center. He returned home the very next day. He had been detained while transiting through the U.S. and ultimately arrested on an unfounded charge of making false statements to U.S. Customs and Border Protection.

This extraordinary victory was driven by lead attorney Rossana Arteaga-Gomez, who guided the case strategy from day one and who masterfully cross-examined the government’s lead witnesses at trial. She was joined by Jenna Ferolie, who delivered a compelling opening statement, and Jack Flagg, whose well-organized and detailed argument on the motion for judgment of acquittal underscored the insufficiency of the government’s evidence.

Beating the federal government in trial is exceptionally rare. This result speaks volumes about the strength, skill, and determination of the AXS LAW team.
